Oil and Natural Gas Corporation wrested title from defending champions Indian Oil Corporation by beating them with a 3-1 margin in the final of the PSPB Inter-Unit Hockey Tournament at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Mohali today.


Indian Oil Corporation held an upper hand in the first half. They forged ahead in the third minute when Didar Singh converted a penalty corner. IOC had more chances to score but their forwards frittered the golden opportunities. IOC led with a slender 1-0 lead in the first half.

ONGC wasted two penalty corners in the first half as IOC goalkeeper Baljit Singh displayed good show under the bar to prevent ONGC from restoring parity. Exhiting good skilfull and fast game, ONGC equalised in the early minutes of the second half through P. Sommana.

ONGC took the lead in the 45th minute through penalty corner conversion by Diwakar Ram. who again was on the spot when he converted another penalty corner in the 61st minute to seal the fate of IOC.

Diwakar Ram was deservingly adjudged the player of tournament. Former Indian hockey captain Arjuna Awardee MM Somaya ( ED Aviation BPCL) was the chief guest and distributed the prizes.
