The assets of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who is seeking re- election from Hinjli Assembly Constituency in 2014 general election has increased by 53 per cent during the last five years.


An analysis of assets comparision of 41 sitting MLAs fielded by various political parties to re contest the coming Assembly election in first phase on April 10 made by Odisha Election watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) revealed that the total Assets of Mr Patnaik was increased from Rs 7,89,97,076 in 2009 to 12,06,37,433 in 2014 registering a 53 per cent rise.

Mr Patnaik figured on the fourth place after A U Singh Deo (BJD) Ms Sugnana Kumari Deo (BJD)and Mr Naba Kishore Das (Cong) in the list of top five re-contesting MLAs with highest asset increase rupee wise.

Mr Bhimsen Choudhury who had contested the Bonai Assembly seat on BJP ticket in 2009 and seeking reelection from the same seat this time as a Congrss candidate finished at the bottom of the top five list with a hike of Rs 3 crore plus assets.

Mr A U Singh Deo(BJD), a member of royal scion topped the list with a hike of Rs eight crore assets.Mr Singh Deo's assets went up from Rs 3.30 crore plus in 2009 to more than Rs 11.81 crore in 2014 followed by Ms Sugnana Kumari Deo whose assets rose to more than Rs 4 crore during the period from Rs 9.29 crore plus in 2009 to more than Rs 13.82 crore in 2014.

The assets of Mr Naba Kishore Das (Cong) jumped by more than Rs 4 crore from Rs 5.82 crore in 2009 to over Rs 10.21 crore during the period.

The analysis found that the average percentage growth in assets of these 41 sitting MLAs during the last five years is 137 per cent. with the average assets increasing to Rs.2.35 crore in 2014 from Rs 98.20 lakh in 2009.

Percentage wise five recontesting MLAS--Manohar Randhari (BJD),Mr Karendra Majhi (BJP),Mr Rajendra Kumar Chhatria (Cong),Usha Devi (BJD) and Gregory Minz (Cong) have registered highest assets increase.

Mr Randhari's assests increased from Rs 6,19,028 in 2009 to Rs 1,29,85,106 in 2014 registering 1998 per cent rise in assests.

Mr Majhi's assets increased by 1690 per cent from Rs 12,81,53 in 2009 to Rs 2,29,38,55 in 2014.

While Mr Chhatria's assets increased from Rs 2.06 lakhs in 2009 to Rs 28.66 lakh in 2014 recording an increase of assets of 1291 per cent,Ms Usha Devi's assets increased by 1123 per cent from Rs 11.67 lakh in 2009 to Rs 1.42 crore in 2014 and Mr Minz's assets went up by 943 per cent from Rs 7.38 lakh in 2009 to 76.98 lakhs in 2014.
