The full bench of the Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath, today held a meeting with leaders of political parties here in connection with the coming Lok Sabha elections in the state.


According to sources, a number of complaints against ruling Trinamool Congress were lodged at the meeting by representatives of opposition BJP, Congress and the Left parties.

The assault of a BDO in Habra in North 24 Parganas and attack on an employee of the state election department in Howrah, allegedly by Trinamool supporters, figured in the list of complaints.

The Election Commissioners would have another meeting during the day with DMs and SPs to take stock of the poll preparations.

They would also have a separate meeting with the Chief Secretary and the Home Secretary to review the overall pre-poll situations in the state.

Besides Mr Sampath, the three-member team, that arrived here yesterday, comprises election commissioners H S Bramha and Nasim Zaidi.

They had met the CEO after arriving here last evening in respect of poll preparations.

Earlier, Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi had visited the city on March 25 and had a number of meetings regarding poll preparations with political parties, the CEO and other administrative and police officials.
