Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, former Union Minister Dillip Ray and former Odisha Minister A U Singdeo have figured in the top ten candidates with highest assets among the 673 candidates contesting 70 Assembly seats in the first phase elections in Odisha.

An analysis of assets of the candidates submitted in their affidavits conducted by the Odisha Election Watch and Association of Democratic Reforms said 103 of the total 673 candidates in the fray are crorepatis.

Former Union Minister Dillip Kumar Ray who is contesting the Rourkela Assembly seat from BJP tickets has the highest assets of Rs 106.82 crores followed by Nitish Gangdeb of BJP from Deogarh seat with 17.65 crores and Suguna Kumari Deo of Biju Janata Dal (13.82 crores).

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has occupied the fourth position in the top ten list with total asset of Rs 12.06 crore followed by former BJD Minister and royal scion A U Singdeo (Rs 11.81 crore).

Mr Singdeo who was recently elected to Rajya Sabha has resigned and seeking reelection from Bolangir Assembly seat.

Out of the ten top highest assets holders, the ruling BJD has a maximum of four candidates followed by Congress (3), BJP(2) and BSP (1). At least eight of the ten candidates have assets more than Rs 10 crore.

Among the 103 crorepatis in the first phase of assembly elections in Odisha, the ruling BJD has the maximum 34 crorepatis out of 70 candidates followed by Congress (26), BJP (19)AAP (5) and BSP(4).

Similarly eight of the 126 independents in the fray are crorepatis.One each from CPI and CPM had become crorepatis as submitted in their affidavits. While the CPI is contesting 15 assembly seat, the CPM is fighting in 6 assembly seats.
