The Election Commission today said that it was looking into the demands of a minority organisation for deployment of central forces in Muslim-dominated areas of West Bengal in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls.

A delegation of the All Bengal Minority Youth Federation met chief electoral officer Sunil Gupta on Wednesday requesting for adequate security measures in the Muslim areas during filing of nominations to preempt political violence.

Assistant chief electoral officer Amit Jyoti Bhattacharjee said the organisation had also requested displacement of polling booths inside the schools located in the Buddhist temple complex in the Bowbazar area of central Kolkata as the date of polling in that area would clash with the celebrations of Buddha Poornima on May 14.
