Senior Congress MLA and a farmer leader Raghvaji Patel today alleged that the Narendra Modi-led BJP government in the state was anti-farmer and it has failed to deliver justice to farmers.

In a statement, Mr Patel said that the state government had failed to make the timely payment of the compensation for the crop failure to farmers during natural calamities.

He said that several farmers had to commit suicide when they did not get the compensation for the crop failure on time.

He said that due to the excess rains last year, the crop was washed out in many areas of the state. The state government had then announced that it would pay Rs 8,000 per acre as compensation to the farmers but even after the completion of all necessary procedure, the farmers are yet to get the payment, he added.

Mr Patel alleged that the BJP government in the state had failed to live up to its promises made to the farmers.
