BJP demands action against IAS officer acting as poll manager of BJD
BJP General Secretary Dharmendra Pradhan today alleged that a senior IAS officer in the Odisha Chief Minister's secretariat is acting as poll manager of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and decided to lodge a complaint with the Election Commission against his 'illegal' action.
Talking to the media here, Mr Pradhan said the IAS officer has been acting as if the BJD's General Secretary and deciding the selection of candidates, collecting party funds and distributing money to the party candidates besides finalising the party advertisements.
He said the IAS officer is also dictating terms to the district officials to assist in the victory of party candidates.
Mr Pradhan also alleged that some officers in the Chief Electoral Officer(CEO) are also openly behaving as the agent of the ruling BJD and trying their best to ensure the victory of the BJD candidates in the elections.
The BJP General Secretary demanded that the call records of the IAS officer be scrutinised by an independent agency ever since the model code of conduct was enforced in the state to ascertain the misuse of his official power for the ruling BJD.
He said the BJP will lodge a strong protest before the Election Commission against the senior IAS officer and other officers of the CEO and urged the Commission to remove them from their post.
Recently, the Election Commission has removed three District Collectors and one DIG of police from their post on the basis of allegations of violation of model code of conduct against them by the Opposition political parties.
The state goes to poll in two phases -- April 10, April 17.
