Ahead of West Bengal's first phase of Lok Sabha poll on April 17, the CPI(M) office at Vetaguri in dinhatta block of this district was reduced to ashes, police said today.

Police said the fire might have sparked at the early hours and completely destroyed all documents, furniture and other movable property.

Local CPI(M) leaders alleged that the Trinamool Congress was behind the fire, which was denied by the party.

There had been a tense situation at the area over the procession between the CPI(M) and TMC, as the latter did with extended time and the former could not organise for paucity of time.

West Bengal's four Lok Sabha seats- Coochbehar, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling will go to the first of the 5-phase polls on April 17.
