Mistry praises Bukhari's appeal to Muslims to support Cong
Congress national general secretary and candidate from Vadodara Lok Sabha seat Madhusudan Mistry today praised the statement issued by Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari reportedly appealing to the Muslims to support the Congress in the coming general election.
Addressing a news conference before filing his nomination papers here, he said Mr Bukhari has done nothing wrong in supporting the Congress.
Mr Mistry is contesting against Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi from Vadodara.
"Everybody should support the Congress to protect the secular fabric of the country," Mr Mistry said.
He added that the Congress has always advocated the politics of social harmony and brotherhood.
Mr Mistry, who is considered very close to Congress vice- president Rahul Gandhi, claimed that he has immense support of the people of Vadodara and he would win the election.
During filing of his nomination papers, Mr Mistry was accompanied by Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee chief Arjun Modhwadia, Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Shankersinh Vaghela and other senior leaders of the party.
Gujarat will go for the polls on April 30.
