Mob ransacks hospital in West Bengal
An unruly mob stormed on the Bhatpara state general hospital and allegedly ransacked besides damaging a pair of police vehicles stationed at the hospital premises under Jagaddal police station in North 24 Parganas this morning.
The mob turned up at the hospital premises including the family members of an accused admitted to the hospital in a critical condition.
The accused, Gopal Singh, resident of Bhatpara area, who was nabbed by the local police last night in a dacoity case and brought to the hospital. He was admitted to the hospital considering his health condition.
Singh's family members alleged that Gopal was seriously beaten by the police after he was taken to the police station last night. Police neither communicated to the family members of the accused about his arrest nor about his health. They also demanded that Gopal be referred to any private hospital for better treatment, which police denied.
DC(DD) C Sudhakar of the Barrackpore police commissionerate said since the accused fell ill, he was admitted to the local state general hospital and necessary medical treatment had been provided by the hospital authorities .
Following disturbance in the hospital, police reinforcement brought the situaion under control.
