Foreign tourists from all across the world mesmerised the crowd with their eye-grabbing entertaining performances yesterday, the second day of the Mewar Festival in Udaipur, Rajasthan.

Tourists from all across the world thronged the three-day-long festival and were in awe of the beauty of the city and colourful 300-year-old festival that is celebrated to welcome the arrival of spring season.

"I am very happy to be using all this traditional dress, it is beautiful to be using so many colours, make-up and jewellery," said a tourist from Brazil, Flora.

Artists also left the audience spellbound with their traditional performances as people cheered and shouted as they entertained the crowd.

In Udaipur, processions of idols were taken through streets as people took part in the festivities. Women dressed in traditional attire walked with idols over their heads to immerse them in the Pichola Lake in the city.

"I do not even have words to describe how beautiful Udaipur is and how beautiful the festival is. It is colourful, just amazing as the place is and it is very wonderful and I am very thankful to be a part of it and to be dancing on stage wearing the traditional clothes," said Celiana, an artist from Canada.

The festival coincides with Gangaur Festival, during which wives pray for long lives of their husbands while single women pray to find the right suitor.

Cultural activities like women folk dressed in bright attires is a distinct feature of the festival and women gather at one point and dress up the images of 'Ganagaur' and 'Isar' (gods).

The festival is not only celebrated in Udaipur but in other towns in Rajasthan like Jaipur and Jodhpur and the other states of Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat.

The Mewar Festival is a major festival of Rajasthan and an integral part of the cultural history of the place.
