Senior IPS officer Suresh Arora today assumed charge as Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab.

Immediately after assuming the charge, Mr Arora, a 1982 batch IPS officer, held an informal meeting with the senior officers of the Punjab police to review the preparedness for general elections.

Mr Arora was earlier posted as the DGP-cum-Chief Director of Vigilance Bureau, Punjab. He had also served as Additional Director General of Police, Intelligence, and Inspector General of Police, Administration, Punjab.

Mr Arora replaced Sumedh Singh Saini, who had proceeded on leave yesterday. The Punjab Congress had complained to the Election Commission (EC) against Mr Saini for favouring the ruling SAD-BJP alliance in the state.
