RSP achieves record production in key areas
The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a unit of the Maharatna Company Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), has achieved best ever figures in key production areas in the fiscal 2013-2014.
RSP sources said the Steel Plant produced 25,38,322 tonnes of Hot Metal registering a growth of 7.3 per cent over the corresponding Period Last Year.
Similarly with the production of 22,91,340 tonnes of Crude Steel and 22,48,247 tonnes of Saleable Steel,the Plant recorded improvement of 3.8 per cent and 4.8 per cent over the last year respectively.
Besides,RSP achieved more than 100 per cent capacity utilisation in all the 3 key production areas like hot metal (127.2 per cent), crude steel (120.6 per cent) and saleable steel (134.5 per cent).
The RSP crossed many more milestones in the last financial year. By producing 37,62,875 tonnes of sinter, the Plant not only registered a growth of 4.0 per cent over last year but also clocked its best ever performance.
The plant also achieved the highest single day hot metal production of 10234 Tonnes on March 30 and the best ever single day production achieved by SMS-II on October 1 by making 19 blows in 'A' shift and 51 blows in all the three shifts.
The plate mill also crossed the landmark of 0.5 Million Tonne production for a year for the first time since inception in 2013-14. Best ever Techno-economic Parameters were also notched up with a Coke rate of 522 Kg of Coke per tonne of Hot metal and Specific Energy consumption of 6.62 Giga Calories per Tonne of Crude Steel.
In the last fiscal RSP made significant progress in the area of Projects implementation. The largest Blast Furnace of the country, 'Durga' was operationalised in August last.
The new Coke Oven Batery-6 along with new Coal Handling Plant, Coke Dry Cooling Plant and new Coal Chemicals Department were inaugurated in the month of June while the new Continuous Slab Caster-3 was inaugurated in August last.
