Metro Railway, Kolkata, the backbone of city's transport system, will have escalator facilities in all stations from surface to platform in near future.


For now on five stations have been identified to have such facilities are Belgachia, Maidan, Jatin Das Park, Kalighat and Rabindra Sarobar, according to Metro Railway's general manager Rajeev Bhargava.

At present, lift for physically challenged persons is confined to elevated section. To extend benefit of Metro services to physically challenged persons 4 stations (Dumdum, Shyam Bazar, Esplanade and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar) have been identified having preliminary feasibility of providing lifts.

He also said each coach of the rake will be provided with fire extinguisher by the middle of this month.

The policy guidelines as well as informative signage at stations for better passenger guidance has been formulated replacing with the new signage very soon. Locations of the signage, content of the signage have also been decided which will surely attract the metro commuters to immediately know about the proper direction for entry and exits.

He informed that uninterrupted communication facilities have been extended for the safety operation in the Metro trains between the motormen and other staff on duty and control office.
