60 companies of central forces to be deployed in Odisha during poll
Union government has decided to provide 60 companies of Central Paramilitary forces to Odisha going to polls in two phases on April 10 and 17 to conduct the elections in a smooth and peaceful manner.
Chief Electoral Office sources here said in the first phase 50 companies of security forces would reach the state and later ten more companies from Andhra Pradesh would join.
The Union Home Ministry also decided to provide 232 satellite phones to the state during the election.
The decision to provide 60 companies of central forces and the satellite phones were taken as the polling would be held in all the Naxal infested areas in the first phase on April 10.
The central forces included security personnel from CRPF, BSF and ITBF. A plan is also on to deploy the personnel of the Jharkhand State Armed police in certain areas of the state.
The security forces would remain in the state from the polling date till the counting was over.But 18 companies of the central paramilitary forces would be sent to Madhya Pradesh after the election in first phase was over on April 10 next.
This apart security personnel deployed in the state for combating the Naxals would also be used for the smooth conduct of the elections.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has announced compensation amount for polling officials in the event of death or disability during the election duty.
The kin of a polling official would be given Rs 10 lakh in case of death and Rs five lakh for permanent disability.
But the compensation amount would be doubled if the death or the disability is occurred due to violence committed by the Maoists, sources here said.
