Combing operations conducted in view of LS elections in Manipur
Manipur police today conducted combing operations at various places ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in the state.
Police frisked drivers and occupants at the market areas.
Suspected people were taken to police stations and released after verification.
Vehicles were stopped at BT Road, Thangal bazaar, Paona bazaar and checked documents.
Passersby were lined up and their identities verified.
Elections will be held on April 9 (Inner Manipur) and April 17 (Outer Manipur) for which 18 candidates are in the fray.
Security personnel on duty for election have left for the polling stations in Outer Manipur which are mostly in hilly areas.
Election officials said arrangements for the first phase is almost over in which 4,40,919 male and 4,53,918 female voters will exercise their franchise in 1,406 polling stations.
Two general observers, one expenditure observer, police observers and 24 awareness observers are now stationed in the constituencies.
About 6,282 officials have left for their destinations and EVMs will be used in all the polling stations.
