Altogether 15 candidates, including Congress nominees Nitin Patil and Vilas Autade, today filed their nomination papers for the Aurangabad and Jalna Lok Sabha constituencies of Marathwada region in Maharashtra, where the polls are due on April 24.


In Aurangabad, Mr Patil filed his nomination as Congress candidate before the returning officer and district collector Vikram Kumar.

Mr Patil, accompanied by Maharashtra school education Minister Rajedra Darda, MLCs Subhas Zambad, Satish Chavan and Vikram Kale as well as party workers, went in a procession to file the nomination papers at the collectorate from Paithan Gate.

Besides Mr Patil, eight other candidates including BSP's Indrakumar Jevarikar and Independents, also filed their nomination papers for Aurangbad city, sources said.

Reports from Jalna said Congress nominee Mr Autade filed his nomination papers before the returning officer at Jalna.

Mr Autade was accompanied by state higher technical education minister Rajesh Tope, Jalna MLAs Dr Kalyan Kale and Kailash Gorentyal.

Besides Mr Autade, Kunjabiahri Agrawal (BSP), Sayed Hussain Ahmed (IMCP) and three Independents also filed their nomination papers.

Tomorrow is the last date for filing of nominations. Scrutiny will take place on April 6, while the last date for withdrawal is April 9, sources added.
