Team India former skipper Mohammad Azharuddin is among 16 candidates who entered the fray for the April 24 Lok Sabha polls in five constituencies of Rajasthan.


The 51-year old former cricketer filed one set of nomination on a Congress ticket in the Tonk-Sawai Madhopur Parliamentary constituency, where he would take on Gujjar strongman and former Haryana MLA Sukhbir Singh Jaunpuria(BJP) and others.

A total of 16 contestants entered the fray today in--Alwar, Dausa(ST), Sawai Madhopur-Tonk, Bharatpur(SC) and Karauli-Dholpur(SC)-taking the total number of candidates to 39, since opening of the filing of nomination on March 29.

Nominations will close on Saturday, the scrutiny will be held on Monday and withdrawals can be made by April 9. Polling in 20 of the 25 constituencies will be held in the first phase on April 17.
