BSF seizes 13 kg heroin from Amritsar sector
The Border Security Force (BSF) jawans seized 13.830 kgs heroin and an AK-47 Nano rifle from the area under Mullanpur Border Out Post (BOP) in Amritsar sector today.
BSF Amritsar section Deputy Inspector General M S Faruqi told reporters that jawans noticed some suspicious movement from Thatha Kot chowki on Pakistani side around 2200 hrs. The jawans retaliated when firing was started from other side.
He said during search in the morning, jawans recovered 13.830 kgs heroin, an AK-47 Nano rifle and around 15 meter long plastic pipe from the spot.
Sources said the smugglers have increased their activities on Indo-Pak border in the wake of Lok Sabha elections in Punjab.
The value of the seized heroin is said to be over Rs 65 crore in the international market.
BSF had seized 27 kgs heroin, 500 gram opium, two pistol magazines, 42 rounds of ammunition, two Pakistani mobile phones and two SIM cards from the area of Khanpur BOP in Abohar sector on Monday night.
The BSF DIG said two Pakistani smugglers and three intruders were killed and over 130 kg heroin was seized by the BSF during the past three months. In 2013, a total of 172 kg heroin was seized and three Pakistani and two Indian smugglers were killed by the jawns, he added.
