As Phablets, or a combination of a phone and tablet, are reportedly becoming more popular, market analysts have officially declared them as 'a thing' and their shipping is expected to hit close to 120 million units by 2018.

Juniper Research revealed that in 2013, 20 million phablet units were shipped and Samsung's Galaxy Note series have sparked off the trend.

According to Tech Crunch, Samsung's Galaxy Note series has been surprisingly successful for the company with its first version selling 2 million units in first four months of launch in late 2011.

The South Korean electronics giant's revised version of the phablet Galaxy Note 3 sold 5 million units in a week.

However, apart from Samsung, companies reining in the phablet success include LG's recently released the G Flex that has a giant, curved display, Nokia's Lumia 1520 running Windows 8, and HTC One Max, the report added.
