Sasaram, Apr 3 : Congress president Sonia Gandhi today lambasted the BJP for promising the moon to the people to grab power at the Centre.

'The party is not concerned at maintaining communal harmony and social amity that existed in the country for long and which is required for accelerating the pace of development and uplift of life of those standing in the last strata of society,' Ms Gandhi told a public meeting here.

She said the BJP was making tall promises before the elections only to trap the people and grab the power at the Centre. Making oblique reference to BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi, she said a few leaders of the party were talking that the Congress had done nothing during the last 60 years in post independent India.

'People are aware of the contribution made by Congress in pre and post independence era,' Ms Gandhi said, adding that they could not be misled by leaders of the BJP who were trying to fool them. Peace was a necessary ingredient for development and it could be maintained only if communal and social harmony existed, she said and added that BJP leaders were trying to divide the society on communal lines.

Ms Gandhi said it was the Congress government which introduced Right to Information (RTI) Act which proved to be a strong weapon for the people to fight corruption. Using the RTI, anyone could have access to information and details about the expenses being incurred by government and any sort of irregularities could be easily detected, she added.
