A special flying squad formed by the Election Commission (EC) seized Rs 4.75 lakh cash from a vehicle deployed for campaigning of Wardha parliamentary constituency Congress candidate Sagar Meghe.

Campaigning of all the candidates for Lok Sabha election has reached its peak in Vidarbha for which polling will take place on April 10, and the EC has formed various squads to keep a watch on misuse of money from candidates during the election period.

Last evening, the special flying squad formed for Wardha parliamentary constituency stopped a white Scorpio (MH-27-U1515), which was deployed for the campaigning of Congress candidate Sagar Meghe, near Mangrul village diversion on Anjansingi road.

The squad, while checking, found Rs 4.75 lakh in the vehicle, which was driven by Manoj Guntewar and Mohan Singhavi. Dhamangaon Railway tehsil President of Congress Party, the Zilla Parishad member and Raju Purohit were travelling in the vehicle.

The squad immediately seized the cash along with the Scorpio and brought to Dattapur Police Station. The squad, along with the Dattapur police, are investigating further in the incident.
