Punjab scored their first victory after beating Himachal Pradesh by five wickets with three balls to spare in the North Zone T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali today. On the opening day, Punjab were shocked by Haryana in their opening match yesterday.


Punjab scored 155 for 5 in 19.3 overs in reply to Himachal Pradesh's 154 for 4. Punjab openers Manan Vohra (35) and Ravi Inder Singh (7) put on 20 runs for the opening wickets stand before Ravi Inder Singh was caught by Dhawan of the bowling of V Malik.

Punjab captain Harbhajan Singh joined Manan Vohra and they took the score to 51 in 5.3 overs. The second wicket partnership yieled 31 runs.

Harbhajan played a hurricae 13-ball 24 which contained three boundaries and two sixes. Mandeep Singh and Manpreet Gony remained not out on 24 and 35, respectively. They were associated in an unbroken 51 runs partnership for the sixth wicket. Gony was seen in top form as he realised unbeaten 35 from just 17 balls and hit three boundaries and two effortless sixes. Mandeep played a cautious knock of 28 from 32 balls. During his 60-minute stay at the wicket, he hit a lone four.
