Two Shiv Sena activists, who were on their way to participate in a procession to file the nomination papers for the party nominee Dr Srikanth Shinde, were injured afer a group of persons said to be of the rival NCP party brutally attacked them at Kalwa.

The duo started from their house at Bhaskar Nagar to participate in a rally to be taken out from Kalwa in support of Dr Shinde, police said.

The duo -- Prakash Rajbar and Ashik Rajbar -- were walking by the side of the temple near the Mafatlal company.

At that time,around 7 to 8 persons who were in waiting for them pounced on them and attacked them brutally. The duo were badly injured and were rushed to the Chatrapati Shivaji Hospital at Kalwa, where they are being treated.

Police then rushed to the spot and arrested three people, all said to be from the NCP, of whom one was the husband of the local corporator Rita Yadav, police added. The arrested accused were identified as Rajnath Singh, Deeak Sherde and Pankaj Pande.
