As many as 19 candidates out of 97 contesting the 10 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha in the first phase on April 10 have declared criminal cases against them, 13 of them have serious criminal cases including murder, attempt of murder, dacoity and criminal intimidation.


Analysis of criminal, financial and other backgrounds of the candidates conducted by the Association of Democratic Reforms and Odisha Election Watch said although 98 candidates were in the fray for the first phase Lok Sabha elections to ten seats in Odisha, the analysis was done on 97 candidates as the affidavit of Das Charan Majhi of Jharkhand Discom Party from Sundargarh Lok Sabha seat could not be analysed due to unclear affidavit.

The party-wise analysis said four BJP candidates, one INC, 2 BJD, 3 AAP, 1 BSP, 1 CPM and 2 independents have declared criminal cases against them in the affidavit.

Mr Narendra Mohanty of AAP from Kandhamal has declared as many as 28 IPC cases pending against him followed by Mr Lambodhar Kunhar an independent candidate from Kandhamal with seven IPC charges and Ms Sangeeta Kumari Singdeo of BJP from Bolangir Lok Sabha seat with three IPC counts.

Two out of 10 BJP candidates, two out of 10 from the BJD, three out of 8 AAP and 2 out of 17 independent candidates have declared serious criminal cases against them in the affidavit.
