Border Security Force personnel seized 27 packets of intoxicants suspected to be heroin and ammunition from the Punjab border in Abohar sector, police said today.

AK Sharma, DIG, sector HQ, Abohar said the BSF jawans also seized 500 gm opium, two pistol magazines, 42 rounds of ammunition, two Pakistani mobile phone and two SIM cards from the area of BOP Khanpur in Abohar sector last night.

He said the BSF troops deployed in the area spotted suspicious movement and Tuesday and challenged the miscreants.

But they continued with their aggressive posture following which the troops opened fire on to thwart the attempt of smuggling drugs into the Indian Territory.

The smugglers managed to escape taking advantage of darkness.

During search, the troops seized 28 packets of intoxicants of which 27 packets contained heroin and the last one was packed with opium, DIG Sharma said.

Besides the packets of heroin and opium, the troops recovered two pistol magazines, 42 rounds, two Pakistani Nokia Cell Phones and two SIM cards.

Value of the heroin seized is said to be Rs 135 crore in the international market.

The BSF had seized nearly 170 kg of heroine valuing Rs 850 crore, so far from the Punjab border during the past three months.
