Left parties, accusing Trinamool Congress of terrorising people in West Bengal, today sought the Election Commission's intervention to ensure free and fair polls in the state.

Senior leaders of CPI(M), CPI, RSP and Forward Bloc met the Commission officials and accused the Trinamool of ''terrorising and intimidating'' people in the state.

They said there should not be any ''double standards'' for West Bengal as leaders elsewhere, who make any hate speech, were being arrested but in West Bengal ''numerous'' such intimidating speeches were being delivered openly by Trinamool ministers and leaders against the opposition but no action has been taken so far.

CPI(M) senior leader Sitaram Yechury said the EC officials have assured the Left leaders that necessary action would be taken to ensure free and fair polls in the state.
