Chief Election Commissioner to visit West Bengal
Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath is expected to visit West Bengal along with his officials this weekend to review the poll process and law and order situation in the state.
State election sources today said Mr Sampath, and election commissioners Harishankar Brahma and Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi are scheduled to visit Kolkata on Saturday to review the entire poll process for five-phase voting for 42 Lok Sabha seats, in the state.
West Bengal goes for the first phase polling on April 17 for four north Bengal's parliamentary seats of Coochbehar, Alipurdwar, Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling.
The ECI officials will also hold meetings with the recognised political parties and all the district magistrates and police supers on Sunday.
The ECI is reportedly investigating some reports of violation of model code of conduct in West Bengal.
