In a thrilling encounter, South Africa defeated England by three runs in a World T20 encounter here on Saturday.


Posting 196 for five on the scorecard, South African bowlers restricted England to 193 for seven in 20 overs.

England made a strong start to the run-chase as openers- Alex Hales (38) and Michael Lumb (18) posted 46 runs on the scorecard at no time. South Africa, however, pulled things back by picked up Lumb in the 4.4 over.

Wayne Parnell picked up Lumb's wickets and then struck twice later in the eighth over to pick up Hales and Moeen Ali (10).

England kept losing wickets regular intervals at one end while the batsmen kept the momentum going to keep hopes pf reaching the target alive.

Jos Buttler (34) and Ravi Bopara (31) made some good contributions with their willows in the match while Tim Bresnan's unbeaten 4-ball 17, which was laced with two sixes and a boundary, kept South Africa under pressure.

With 22 runs required off the last over by Dale Steyn, Bresnan and Start Broad (1*) failed to reach the target. Bresnan hit two sixes and a boundary in the last over.
