Aiming to luring more foreign investments to Maharashtra, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has left for Davos-Kolsters in Switzerland to attend the 44th World Economic Forum meeting, an official said Tuesday.

Accompanied by a high-level business delegation, Chavan is the only Indian chief minister to be invited for the annual WEF-2014 and is expected to interact with global business leaders during the four-day meeting starting Wednesday.

Themed "The Reshaping of the World: Consquences for Society, Politics & Business", the meet Chavan will interact with at head honchos of at least 30 top MNCs from different countries.

Among them are Diageo, General Electronics, Volkswage, Microsoft, Facebook, Fafram, and Unilever besides others covering a wide range of economic sectors, with thrust on IT, manufacturing and pharmaceuticals.

Chavan will participate in discussions on the future of urbanization, generating employment and agriculture sector at the WEF and hold individual meetings with global business leaders to attract more foreign investment in Maharashtra.

The chief minister has been invited by Zurich Airport to pay a visit and view the facilities there against the backdrop of the proposed new international airport coming up in Navi Mumbai.

The state government has produced a short film highlighting the benefits of investing in Maharashtra and a special docket promoting the state as an investment destination.

This is the first time in six years that a Maharashtra chief minister is participating in Davos, and is Chavan's first foreign trip after taking over the state's reins. In 2008, Vilasrao Deshmukh had gone to Davos.
