While there remains a perpetual fight between Apple and Samsung for the top spot among the masses, here is a look at what world leaders prefer in smartphone brands.

It is a worldwide known fact that US President Barack Obama is inseparable from his beloved BlackBerry, even if the company is sinking in market share.

According to the Guardian, the president's BlackBerry has been specially enhanced by the US National Security Agency, but there have been speculations that the White House was testing other phones, including models by Samsung and LG.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who recently hit headlines after reports flourished about her phone being intercepted by the NSA, has at least two phones she uses on a regular basis, including a Nokia 6260 Slide and a BlackBerry Z10, fitted with an encryption chip by Secusmart.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been spotted using iPhones and Samsungs, but they belong to members of his entourage, while he himself is seen carrying far-from-fashionable BlackBerry Bold.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin is famous for claiming to not have a mobile phone, unlike the country's Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev, who is known for his love of Apple products.

French president, Francois Hollande, is inseparable from his iPhone 5, while North Korea's Kim Jong-un is pictured with a smartphone that appeared to be an HTC phone.

Italian Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, is more than just an iPhone user - he is an Apple devotee who once had himself photographed beside the sign at the entrance to the company's headquarters, the report added.
