Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius' trial in connection with the killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last year has been postponed till April 7, media reports said on Friday.

"The defence in the murder trial of Oscar Pistorius has been postponed until 7 April as one of the assessors assisting the judge has been taken ill," BBC reported.

The trial over the matter started on Mar 3.

Pistorius was charged with murder and illegal possession of ammunition following the death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in February last year.

He was granted bail on Feb 22, 2013.

Pistorius had admitted shooting dead Steenkamp, 29, while she was in the bathroom of his home on Feb 14. He claimed he mistook her for an intruder and denied a charge of premeditated murder.
