Virender Sehwag's ton helps MCC beat Durham
Cricketer Virender Sehwag, who is unable to find his place in the India side, scored a century as he guided his Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) to a six wicket victory over Durham on the final day of the Champion County fixture here on Wednesday.
Commencing the final day on 48/2, MCC were 176 short of victory.
MCC skipper Sehwag romped to a sparkling ton off just 88 balls.
He smashed 18 fours and one six in his 97-ball 109.
Resuming on nine overnight, Sehwag hammered three fours off Jamie Harrison in the first over of the day.
Despite losing the wickets of Daniel Bell-Drummond to Scott Borthwick earlier, Samit Patel played the role of a perfect partner for the Indian batsman in a stand of 105.
By the lunch interval, the duo took the game beyond the reigning County Champions Durham.
Sehwag departed for 109 to Harrison.
Patel, however, finished unbeaten on a brisk 48 while Prasanna Jayawardene (6*) reached the target after Sehwag returned to the pavilion.
Harrison picked up two wickets for Durham.
