Chandigarh, March 24 : The Congress Monday complained to the Election Commission against political statements made by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and other Akali Dal leaders during a function to mark the martyrdom day of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.

In the complaint, the Congress pointed ou that Badal and other Akali Dal leaders, during their speeches at the function at Khatkar Kalan, the village of Bhagat Singh, 80 km from here, asked the gathering to vote for the Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates.

The complaint also said that Badal urged voters to support BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to form the next union government.

"Invoking the martyrs and seeking votes in their name at the martyrdom function by Parkash Singh Badal was in blatant violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Prem Singh Chandumajra (Akali Dal candidate for the Anandpur Sahib constituency) is equally guilty of the violation as he himself was present at the said function," the complaint stated.
