Barmer, Mar 24 IBNS | 4 months ago

After being denied a ticket by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Barmer, senior party leader Jaswant Singh on Monday filed his nomination papers in the constituency as an Independent candidate.

"Now I am relieved. It is up to the people whether they will make me win or not. But I am contesting not just for my honour but the honour of people," said Singh after filing his nomination papers.

The BJP has denied the Barmer seat in Rajasthan to Singh, who wanted to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the constituency.

The BJP, in its sixth list of candidates, had instead given the ticket to Colonel Sonaram Choudhary.

Singh had reportedly told the BJP leadership that he wanted to contest from the Barmer constituency.

He was instead fielded from Dahod in Gujarat.
