WT20: Pakistan beat Australia
An all-round performance by Pakistan ensured they register their first win in the ongoing World T20 by beating Australia by 16 runs here on Sunday.
Posting 191 for five on the scorecard, Pakistani bowlers bowled out Australia for 175 runs.
Hitting nine boundaries and four sixes, Umar Akmal remained the top scorer for Pakistan as he smashed en entertaining knock of 54-ball 94.
Kamran Akmal earlier contributed 31 runs while Shahid Afridi showed good form by playing an unbeaten knock of 11-ball 20. He hit two boundaries and a six in his innings at the end which helped the Asian side post 191 on the scoreboard.
Nathan Coulter-Nile took two wickets for Australia.
Chasing 192 for victory, Australian lost opener David Warner (4) in the second ball of the innings. Shane Watson (4) also departed in the same over as Australian innings tottered at 8-2 after the first over.
Zulfiqar Babar picked up both the wickets.
Aaron Finch (65) and Glenn Maxwell (74) recovered the innings from that point as they added 118 runs in the third wicket partnership.
Maxwell hammered six sixes and seven boundaries in his 33-ball knock as Australia looked to reach the target comfortably at that point of the match.
Pakistan pulled things back by picking up the wickets of Maxwell, George Bailey (4), Brad Hodge (2) , Finch and Coulter-Nile (0) to reduce the side from 126 for two to 163 for seven.
Mitchell Starc (3),Brad Hogg (3) Brad Haddin (8) failed to contribute much with their willows.
Babar, Umar Gul, Afridi and Bhatti picked up two wickets each in the match.
Bhatti, who gave away 30 runs in an over, bowled tight in the last over of the innings and picked up two wickets to finish the proceedings. He gave away six runs in the 20 th over of the innings.
Umar Akmal was adjudged the 'Man of the Match'.
