At least seven people died and ten others sustained burn injuries when a petrol tanker exploded at Charoti on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway in Maharashtra on Saturday, reports said.


The driver of the tanker, while heading towards Mumbai, paid the toll at the Charoti plaza and then lost control of the vehicle which turned turtle around 200 feet away from the toll plaza.

The tanker, which was coming from Gujarat, exploded at around 2.30pm.

According to reports, four six-seater autos, two private cars and seven to eight two-wheelers caught fire and were charred.

A hotel named Apsara was also badly damaged due to the flames.

The bodies and the injured have been taken to a nearby hospital.

The normal vehicular movement on the highway has been restored.
