As many as 65 people were killed in road accidents in Nigeria in a single day, the road safety authority said Tuesday.
These people were killed Monday in three auto accidents in Yobe and Oyo states of the country, Xinhua reported citing the Federal Road Safety Commission.
Yusuf Sani, a spokesperson for the road safety commission in Yobe, said 55 people were killed in two separate crashes on the Gashua-Garin Alkali and Damaturu-Potiskum roads in the state.
He said 20 passengers of a bus were killed when the vehicle collided with a truck on the Gashua-Garin Alkali road. In another accident, 35 people died when three light vehicles collided on the Damaturu-Potiskum road.
In southwest Oyo State, 10 occupants of a mini-bus lost their lives in a crash along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The dead were burnt beyond recognition, Tanya Adeoye, a commander with the road commission told the media Monday.
