Nepal made a good start to their international journey as the debutants beat Hong Kong by 80 runs in a Qualifying stage match of the World T20 here on Sunday. Posting 149 runs for eight on the scoreboard, Nepali spinners bowled well to bowl out Hong Kong for 69 in 17 overs.

Basant Regmi and Shakti Gauchan picked up three wickets apiece for Nepal and Sompal Kami took two to destroy the Honk Kong batting line-up.

Paras Khadka and Jitendra Mukhiya scalped one each.

Babar Hayat remained the top scorer for Hong Kong with his 20.

Waqas Barkat (18) and Mark Chapman (13) were the only other two batsmen to reach the double figure mark.

Hong Kong earlier won the toss and sent Nepal to bat first.

Nepal posted 149 for eight in 20 overs.

Gyanendra Malla remained the top scorer for the Himalayan country with his 48.

Haseeb Amjad took three wickets for Hong Kong.

Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by nine wickets in the opening Group A Qualifying match of the World T20 here on Sunday.
