2 killed in Thane building fire

Mumbai, Mar 16 : At least two people died and two others were injured in a fire that broke out on the twelfth floor of the Sundarban park building in Thane district of Maharashthra on Sunday.

The fire reportedly started at 6 am.

The fire broke out in a penthouse on the 12th floor of the building. Two senior citizens died in the blaze even as their daughter and grandchildren managed to escape, reports said.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained but preliminary findings indicate that it could be because of a short circuit.

According to reports, ten fire engines and ten water tankers were rushed to the spot. The fire brigade managed to douse the flames within an hour of the mishap.

The building houses around 25 flats which were evacuated immediately after the incident.
