Cricketer Kevin Pietersen, who will be seen playing the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Delhi Daredevils this season, on Tuesday thanked the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for clearing his visa and passport in connection with his visit to India.

Pietersen tweeted: "It's arrived! Thank you @MEAIndia! Always happier when I have my passport!"

Pietersen on Monday said his passport was lying with the Indian embassy in the UK for the past 10 days for a task which according to him needed only 24 hours.

He asked the MEA to help him in connection with the matter.

"Trying to travel to India urgently & the Indian Embassy has had my passport for 10days for a 24hr service. Help @MEAIndia, @IndianDiplomacy?" Pietersen tweeted on Monday.

MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin told the English cricketer that it required approval of the Indian Sports Ministry.

"@KP24 Event requires approval of Sports Ministry. Mission will give Visa promptly once organisers of event obtain necessary approval," he tweeted.

Later in the day, he said: "@KP24 Good news. Twiplomacy works!! Necessary clearance just received from Sports Ministry. Mission to grant visa soon. C u in India soon."
