ICC Event Technical Committee approves replacement in England squad
The ICC has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014 has approved Ian Bell as a replacement player for Joe Root in the England men's squad for the tournament that will be staged in Bangladesh from March 16 to April 6.
Root fractured his right thumb during the third and final ODI against the West Indies in Antigua.
Bell has represented England in seven T20Is in which he has scored 175 runs at an average of just under 30.
The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad.
The Event Technical Committee of the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014 consists of Geoff Allardice (ICC, chairman), Campbell Jamieson (IDI representative), Mahbubul Anam (BCB Director), Khaled Mahmud Sujan (BCB Director and former captain), Russel Arnold (independent nominee) and Pommie Mbangwa (independent nominee).
England will play its opening Super 10 stage match against New Zealand on Saturday March 22.
