Lusofonia Games-2014 inaugural ceremony held

Goa, Jan 18 : The inaugural ceremony of the much awaited 3rd Lusofonia Games- 2014 was held here on Friday to welcome all the various Chef-de-Missions along with their respective international contingents.
Speaking about the ceremony, CEO, Lusofonia Games, Keshav Chandra said, "We want to extend a warm welcome to all the 12 international teams, including the Indian team, to the shores of Goa."
"Thanks to the Lusofonia Games, Goa will experience the presence of the finest sportspersons from different parts of the world," Chandra said.
The teams exchanged gifts in the spirit of true sportsmanship amidst a cultural programme.
With national anthems of all the participating nations being played and their flags being screened at the event, it was a proud moment for one and all.
The 3rd Lusofonia Games will be held over the period of 12 days from Jan 18 to 29, and will see participation of athletes and officials from 12 nations.
The participating countries are founding members Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea- Bissau, Goa (India), Macau (China), Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and Sri Lanka.
Athletes from 12 nations will compete in 9 different sporting disciplines - Athletics, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Football, Judo, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball and Wushu.
The Lusofonia Games are among the largest and the most prestigious multinational, multi-sport games in the world organized by ACOLOP (AssociacĂUSD o dos Comites Olimpicos de Lingua Oficial Portugues), which involves athletes coming from Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) countries.
