Kolkata, Mar 10 : Radio Jockey and actor Mir has joined hands with WWF-India to pledge his support towards Earth Hour 2014 .
Earth Hour is WWF's global campaign to raise awareness and inspire individual action on climate change.
Reinforcing his support to the cause, Mir said, "Earth Hour is a peoples' movement symbolizing a lifestyle that ensures clean and sustainable energy. An important global agenda, it is intrinsically connected to human well-being and environment protection. I, for my part, am supporting Earth Hour because it is our duty as citizens to motivate people around us to adopt more environment-friendly lifestyle practices."
Speaking about the campaign, Ravi Singh, Secretary General and CEO, WWF-India said, "Earth Hour is a movement that unifies people nationwide to express their concern over the global crisis of climate change. Participatory in nature, the campaign's clear message encourages individuals, businesses and governments to adopt sustainable practices in order to conserve the finite resources of our beautiful planet. The shift to renewable energy has received overwhelming responses, especially among schoolchildren. This year too, Earth Hour hopes to leave an indelible impression on people's minds about the environment."
ITC Sonar, the hospitality partner for Earth Hour in Kolkata for the last two years, is the first hotel in the world registered by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change for Carbon Emission Reduction.
It is also a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certified building by United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
Earth Hour 2014 will kick off with Pedal for the Planet, a cyclothon scheduled to be held in New Delhi on Mar 22.
