Sri Lanka beat Pakistan to lift Asia Cup
Sri Lanka's Lahiru Thirimanne smashed a gutsy 101 and Mahela Jayawardene hit 75 as they helped their side beat Pakistan by five wickets to lift the Asia Cup here on Saturday.
Chasing Pakistan's 260 for five, Sri Lanka reached 261 runs by losing five wickets in 46.2 overs.
Sri Lankan openers-Thirimanne and Kusal Perera (42)- gave their side a good start and rushed to 56 for o in 10 overs.
Pakistan, however, bounced back and picked up two consecutive wickets of Perera and Kumar
Sangakkara (0) to reduce Sri Lanka to 56 for 2.
Saeed Ajmal struck twice and got rid off both the batsmen including Sangakkara who has performed well in the tournament.
Jayawardene and Thirimanne added 156 runs in the third wicket partnership and cruised the side towards victory.
Pakistan later picked up the wickets of Ashan Priyanjan (13), Jayawardene and Thirimanne but it was late to make any impact.
Ajmal picked up three wickets for Pakistan.
Angelo Mathews (16no) and Chaturanga de Silva (6no) ensured Sri Lanka lift the cup another time.
Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. Misbah-ul-Haq's men posted 260 for five on the scoreboard.
Fawad Alam remained unbeaten at 114. He hammered eight boundaries and three sixes in his knock.
Umar Akmal (59) and Haq (65)contributed well with their bats after Pakistan were reduced to 18 for three in 4.3 overs.
Lasith Malinga picked up five wickets for Sri Lanka by giving away 56 runs in his 10 overs.
