Mumbai: 18 killed in stampede
At least 18 people were killed and over 60 others were injured in a stampede that broke out on Saturday ahead of the funeral of spiritual leader Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin in Mumbai.
The stampede occurred around 1.30 am at Burhanuddin's Malabar Hill residence where his followers had gathered to pay their tribute to the leader.
The 98-year-old (Islamic 103 years) Dawoodi Bohra leader died of a cardiac arrest at his residence on Friday.
He was the 52nd Dā'ī l-Muṭlaq (Dai, or Unrestricted Missionary) of the Dawoodi Bohras.
The Dawoodi Bohras are a sub group within the Mustaali, Ismaili Shia branch of Islam.
