Husbands top priority for women: Survey

New Delhi, Mar 6 : Marriage is a watershed moment especially for women. It marks a palpable shift not only in the life of women but also in the way women view their priorities.

It is therefore important to know the kind of change marriage fashions on the lives of modern day Indian woman.

Therefore on the occasion of International Women's Day,, India's fastest growing matrimonial site, has done a survey to understand their priorities in life before marriage and the kind of makeover their priorities list will take when they will get hitched.

The survey comprised of more than 1500 women and was focused on how their priorities in life will change post their tying the knot.

Women were asked to rank their priorities in life before matrimony and post wedding. Career and job were given number one spot with 53pc of women putting it as their number one concern.

The tables got reversed post the walk down the aisle with women ranking career as number fourth priority.

So on being asked about number one priority after marriage, an astounding 51pc of women indicated their future partner as their number one priority post the nuptials.

Parents are a constant pillars in our lives and this sentiment got echoed in the survey when majority of the women ranked their parents as number two priority in their lives before marriage with 25pc of women ranking it as number two and almost equal number of women ranking their parents as number three priority after marriage since their own children take up the second place in the priority list.

Money got featured as rank three in priority list before marriage, while post marriage it is the filial duties which take precedence over monetary concerns with majority of women ranking parents as number three priority shoving money to the fifth position in the list.

"One must be serious about something, if one wants to have any amusement in life" was Oscar Wilde's truism and Indian women have adopted it as their credo.

Hobbies and other interests occupy penultimate place in women's priority list with majority of women ranking it as number four in their scheme of things in life while travelling has emerged as the fifth concern in a single woman's life with majority of women ranking it as number five in their priority list

It seems that the post marriage Indian women seem to spend fewer hours on themselves since items like hobbies and traveling are conspicuously absent from the list.

Hobbies get replaced by career post their matrimony with majority of women placing it at number four position in their priority list while material concerns takes over the wanderers lust after matrimony with bulk of women ranking money as the fifth important priority in their life after marriage.

Commenting on the survey, Prakash Sangam, Business Head,, said, "The survey clearly shows a tangible shift in women's priorities before and after marriage and also throws a light on the outlook of women towards their lives. Indian women have pristine clarity towards what they value most in life with career and husband becoming their top priorities before and after marriage.

"The survey also indicates that even after marriage, parents continue to feature in their priority list indicating their willingness to shoulder responsibility and care for their parents."
