Asia Cup: India defeat Afghanistan by 8 wickets
In an insignificant match, India defeated Afghanistan by eight wickets in the ninth match of the Asia Cup here on Wednesday.
Chasing Afghanistan's 159 runs, India reached 160 runs by losing two wickets in 32.2 overs.
Indian openers Ajinkya Rahane (56) and Shikhar Dhawan (60) gave India a solid start as they posted 121 runs on the scoreboard.
Afghanistan bowlers, whose bowling performance had impressed all in the tournament so far, failed to make a mark against Virat Kohli's men.
Mirwais Ashraf gave Afghanistan the break by picking up the wicket of Rahane in 23.2 overs.
Mohammad Nabi bowled out Dhawan to give India second jolt. But they were too late to disturb the current World Champions.
Rohit Sharma (18 not out) and Dinesh Karthik (21 not out) joined in a 37 runs partnership to win the match.
Samiullah Shenwari's 50-run knock was the only high-point in the Afghanistan innings as the team posted 159 all out in 45.2 overs.
He hammered one six and six boundaries in his knock.
Noor Ali Zadran (31) and Mohammad Shahzad (22) were the only two other batsmen who reached the double figure mark in the match.
Indian spinners performed performed well in the match as
Ravindra Jadeja, who was adjudged the Man of the Match, picked four wickets in the clash.
R Ashwin and Amit Mishra picked up two and a wicket respectively.
Mohammed Shami took two wickets in the match.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka have already qualified for the final of the five-nation tournament.
