Emami Chisel Art hosts annual exhibition

Kolkata, Mar 1 : Emami Chisel Art on Friday hosted an annual exhibition 'eca calling', promising to give a peek into the best of the contemporary art scene through paintings, graphics, drawings, sculptures and new media, here. The exhibition was inaugurated by Mohan Goenka, Director, Emami Ltd, in the presence of chief guest Wasim Kapoor and art veterans like Sunil Das, Dhiraj Chowdhury, Niranjan Pradhan among others. The exhibition is also going to host a pan-India competition amongst 160 budding artists hailing from states like West Bengal, Gujarat, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. A total award honorarium of Rs 2.6 lakhs will be awarded to the winning participants from various categories chosen by an eminent jury comprising Dhiraj Chowdhury, Sanat Kar, art curator Nanak Ganguly and art critic Ratnottama Sengupta. Speaking on the occasion Nanak Ganguly said, "This exhibition is a new platform for artists from all over the country. Emami has established its standards by putting up an exhibition like this. The number of artists are large and in the coming years it will be larger." Artist Wasim Kapoor further said, "It's a good start for all the artists as it will fulfil the quest for art lovers. It has opened a new window for the budding artists." Awards were also handed over to the winners from each of the categories like painting, sculpture, new media, drawing, graphics and water colour. Other promising artists were bestowed with certificates of merit. Priced between Rs 10,000 to Rs 10 lakhs, the artworks would be up for grabs for a wide cross section of art enthusiasts. The month-long exhibition is on till Mar 31.
