West Bengal: Adventure tour course for youth

By Manik Banerjee, Jalpaiguri, Feb 28 : East Zone chapter of Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), the apex body of all land based adventure in the country, in collaboration with state tourism department and district administration, will be conducting "Adevnture Tourism Guide Course" at Damanpur under Jalpaiguri district in north Bengal during March 2 to 8.
Secretary of IMF-East Zone Committee, Mrinal Chtterjee, on Friday informed that Jalpaiguri district with plenty of forests, rivers and rocks in its fold, has very good scope of developing adventure tourism in the district.
The idea of this course is to make the prospective adventure guides of the region aware about the needs the tourists would require besides knowledge about Dos and DON'Ts while visiting the area.
The course would also teach them about the basic rules and regulations to be followed without disturbing the ecology and environment .
Experts from different fields like local cartography, flora and fauna , ecology, environment , adventure sports and tourism will join the programme as resource persons.
Sharmistha Chatterjee, SDO of Jalpaiguri, will inaugurate the course on March 2 in presence of former Principal of Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling and Nehru Institute of Mountaineering , Uttar Kashi Col (Retd).Ajit Dutt will grace the occasion as Guest of Honour.
